GENERAL INFORMATION & BULLETIN BOARD

If you would like to be added to our e-mail distribution list, please submit your information to us through the Home tab above.

Fees for Building Permits for New Building Construction have been waived for 2017 by the City Council to encourage new home building during this time of slow economic recovery.  This also applies to New Commercial Buildings.  Water tap-on fees will still apply.  This waiver does not apply to Remodels or Additions.

Make sure your house  number posting is compliant with Rabun County 911 System Requirements!
Ordinance  10-02 & 911 Address  Posting Requirements.  You can purchase the sign and have it  installed by the Rabun County Mapping Office.  Please contact them  directly at (706) 782-7579 for information on this service.

Don’t forget that garbage service is once per week and recycling pick-up one per week beginning April 6, 2015.  Household garbage will be picked up on Mondays and recycling on Thursdays unless it is a holiday or inclement weather.  The base rate for solid waste pick-up is $23.00 per month.  This is a minimum fee and includes household garbage, recycling, leaf removal and chipping services.   Back door service or chipping services in excess of 15 minutes per pick-up will be billed addition an additional fee.

The base rate for water is $39.50 per month for the first 2,000 gallons of water used.   Usage above the 2,000 gallons per month is billed incrementally based on the total usage.  Installation of the new automated water meters and shut off valves has been completed.  The new homeowner shut off valve is the valve that you will begin using.   This valve is in the box with the round lid.   A label with your 911 street address is attached to the lid to help you identify the correct shut-off valve.   The city meter will remain on at all times unless the city has turned it off for a reason.

City Ordinance requires that all residences vacated during winter months shall be winterized to protect the plumbing from freezing.  Billing adjustments may not be considered when a home has been left vacated without turning the homeowner valve off.  Under no circumstances may a water tap be left open to prevent freezing when a home is unattended.  This practice is prohibited and a violation of water use conservation by GA EPD.  Any vacated residence detected using water by the City will be assumed to have faulty plumbing internally.  Upon this assumption the City will turn off the water to prevent additional damage to the property and attempt to contact the property owner.
